This weeks fishing has been fantastic. Trout, Pompano, Snook and Redfish have been the major players this time of year. Look for Pompano to be in the passes using jigs tipped with shrimp and trout to be taking up residence on the various grass pockets chasing a pilchard. Most of my success this week has been focusing on clean water at the end of the outgoing tide and the start of the incoming. Bait is still very plentiful on the gulf but be careful because the conditions have been up and down all week. Above are a couple of good catches from this weeks action.

Fishing in our area has seen a change from snook and redfish to trout and pompano. Pompano can be found in the passes using pink jigs tipped with shrimp like the one here from Mikes Bait House. The trout bite has been very good on the outgoing tide using pilchards free lined with a 3/0 circle hook or try adding a little split shot for best results. Snook are around but seem to be a little lazy when it comes to chasing a bait. Water temps have dipped down to the lower 70's warming to mid 70's during the day. With some good day ahead look for the bite to pick back up before next weeks cold front. Here is little Luca Musico practicing some good catch and release fishing for trout.
Capt. Joey Benko 239-450-7382 With the arrival of the first cold fronts of the year look for fall fishing to start changing soon. Water temps are remaining in the lower 80's and bait is still very abundant. Snook fishing has remained very good with season open catching the slot fish has gotten tougher with the big fish running for cover.
Redfish can be targeted at the high stages of the tide and trout can be found along the points close to the passes. Pompano can be caught in the passes from Doctors to Caxambass Pass. Be prepared for the water temps to start showing signs of cooling and be ready to start using jigs tipped with shrimp. The above photos are of Carol Downing with a beautiful 27 inch trout and also some very nice upper slot redfish. Capt. Joey Benko Naples & Marco Island Fishing Charters Book a Trip: (239) 450-7382 Fishing in our areas has taken a back seat to some awful weather. Rains have covered most of SWFL and the Gulf has been roughed up for days. It's going to take days for things to calm down and conditions to start improving. Prior to the tropical wave fishing was fantastic with bait everywhere and fish chewing. Here is Capt. Kyle down on a little vacation catching some beautiful spotted sea trout with lots of snook and monster jacks mixed in. I like everyone is itching to get on the water but make the most of your time off the water to do some tackle cleaning and boat organization.
Capt Joey Benko We are experiencing the summer time rains in full effect and this is making catching bait very challenging. Look to turn in the cast nets for Sibiki Rigs to catch pinfish and thread fins. The passes from Doctors Pass to Cape Romano are loaded with big snook. On the beaches tarpon are moving up and down but get out early throwing crabs and big threads. With more rain in the forecast get out early to avoid the lightning storms in the afternoon. Here is Mr. Jennings family with one of many snook caught on the outgoing tide.
Capt. Joey Benko We had a fun family day inshore out of Naples. Plenty of #redfish, #snook and #trout to keep everyone smiling and enjoying the water with Capt. Joey! www.naplesfishingguide.com #inshorefishingnaples #marcoislandfishingcharters #naplesfishingcharters
The fishing here in Naples has been very good with Tarpon showing up. Snook and Redfish action has been awesome with lots of catches. Look for bait to get challenging as it's getting ready to spawn and with this last front pushing through it's going to take some time for things to stabilize again.
Capt. Joey A few #snook releases along the mangrove shorelines so far this week and even shots at laid up tarpon. The #tarpon migrate up the coast and retreat into the backwater areas during their long ocean journey. www.naplesfishingguide.com #fishingchartersnaples #marcoislandfishing #naplesfishingguide
These fish are just absolutely Badass! It is was an awesome day watching this beautiful fish kick my wife's ass. Great job grinding through the pain and getting it to the boat. #aftco #okuma #surfnturf #naplesfishingguide #mikesbaithouse #powerpole #cousinrods #smithoptics
Naples fishing is starting to get really good with tarpon, snook, redfish and trout being the primary focus. Pilchards can be found along the beaches and also mullet in the back bays. I've found my best action to be in the afternoon when the tide has a chance to fill in for redfish and snook. It is not uncommon for us to see sharks cruising around as well. Tarpon are starting to show up in small numbers as they migrate up the coast but with this weeks weather look for fishing to improve quickly. There are some smaller resident tarpon 15-30lbs that like to hang out tucked under the mangrove shorelines.
Below are a few photos from this past weekend where Luca Musico won his division catching snook redfish and trout during a local tournament on my boat. Have a great rest of the week! Capt. Joey Benko |
