Fishing here in Naples has been changing rapidly with the warmer water temps. The water temps have climbed between 76-79 degrees. Look for bait to start showing up on the beaches and near shore structure. Time to bust out those nets and get them ready for some serious bait fishing. Anyone looking for a good net stop into Mikes Bait House for the full line of Hump Back Nets. With warmer temps the big snook have been showing up around the passes. Redfish can be targeted using smaller baits, gulp new penny and also live shrimp under the mangroves where you can find a nice pocket to soak them. Today's action was pretty fierce catching two personal best and losing a monster snook. Look for the front to change the game a little midweek with cooler temps.

Fishing this week is improving with the passing of a major front. The water is still dirty but cleaning and warming more and more everyday. Snook and tarpon are roaming the beaches and passes. Look for conditions to improve as we move into the weekend. Here is Tom and Carol with a pair of beautiful redfish caught using pilchards with a 3/0 Kahle hook. Focus on the last part of the incoming and the start of the outgoing for best results.
Capt. Joey Benko Naples Inshore & Backcountry Fishing Charters This weeks fishing has been fantastic. Trout, Pompano, Snook and Redfish have been the major players this time of year. Look for Pompano to be in the passes using jigs tipped with shrimp and trout to be taking up residence on the various grass pockets chasing a pilchard. Most of my success this week has been focusing on clean water at the end of the outgoing tide and the start of the incoming. Bait is still very plentiful on the gulf but be careful because the conditions have been up and down all week. Above are a couple of good catches from this weeks action.
Capt. Joey Benko Book a Trip: 239-450-7382 The fishing here in Naples has been very good with Tarpon showing up. Snook and Redfish action has been awesome with lots of catches. Look for bait to get challenging as it's getting ready to spawn and with this last front pushing through it's going to take some time for things to stabilize again.
Capt. Joey With the last front that came through and a big full moon the water temp has fallen back to the lower 70's. Bait fish have been the keys baits of choice but with cooler temps fish are still waiting for things to warm. Look for snook on the falling tide and redfish at the end of the incoming. Here is Carol Downey catching two beautiful redfish this week. With warmer temps look for things to start improving fast.
Fishing this week has ended on a positive note. Strong full moon tides have created some very low tides be careful out there. Bait has been making a good comeback and the snook are loving them. If you do get a chance and want to change up the pace a little bit throw some flies in the back country for some good snook action. Sheepshead and trout can still be targeted using shrimp and jigs and look for redfish on the higher stages of the tides. The water should be warming this week to make for some great conditions.
Capt. Joey Benko January has been a great month for fishing here in SWFL. Snook have been enjoying the warmer temps along with redfish and trout. Tripletail have been short in numbers but big in size offshore. Playing the tide is key to finding the fish. Look for trout on the outgoing tide using jigs (Mikes Bait House specials) tipped with shrimp and also pilchards with a split shot on the bottom. Trout will be holding in troughs and deep holes with grass on the bottom. Snook have been in the passes and have been blasting pilchards. Redfish have been tough to find but spending some time stalking a gin clear shoreline will produce but be Patient. Look for things to change as the weekends weather is going to bring in a cold front. Bust out and Catch a Big One. |
